Helpful Tips and Resources

Leaks can add up to more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted at home every year - that's enough to fill a backyard swimming pool. Following are a few water-saving tips from PHCC (Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors):

  1. Reduce faucet leaks by checking faucet washers and gaskets for wear.
  2. Leaky toilets are most often the result of a worn toilet flapper. Getting the rubber flapper replaced is a quick fix that could save a home with a constantly running toilet up to 200 gallons of water per day. Note: Toilets with 1.6 gallons per flush water usage do work well and save on water consumption. We as a company at Frecka Plumbing have tested 1.6 gallons flush toilets in our own test module for accurate performance results. We do sell those toilets that we consider to have the best flush and price point. Visit our showroom and check out our "Gerber" brand toilet selection. An excellent flush at an excellent price.
  3. For a leaky garden hose, replace the nylon or rubber hose washer and ensure a tight connection to the spigot using pipe tape and a wrench.
  4. Landscape irrigation systems should be checked each spring before use to make sure they are not damaged by frost or freezing.

PHCC is a top-ranking plumbing organization dedicated to building a better plumbing industry to provide quality service to the public. We are an active member of the PHCC in the Greater Akron area.

Outdoor faucets

If you have left a garden hose attached to your outdoor faucet last winter, you should immediately check inside your home when you turn on your faucet for the first time this spring. With this exceptionally cold winter, you may experience a leak in the wall where your faucet enters your home.

Sump pumps

With more water in the ground in winter and spring seasons, be observant of your sump pumps condition. Sump pumps generally do NOT give early warning signs of failure. They most often just quit working. There is not an average lifespan on a sump pump. The best precaution is, if your sump pump is older or is in use a lot, replace it before it fails.

If Your Toilet is A Rockin...

If your toilet rocks on the floor it will eventually damage your floor and or ceiling from leakage. A toilet rocking on the floor means your toilet needs reset.
